OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Stevenson men's soccer broke through offensively in a big way to the tune of a 5-1 drubbing of Penn State Brandywine on Sunday afternoon between raindrops at Mustang Stadium.

The victory marked the first of the season for Stevenson (1-2), which ended its scoreless streak over the first two outings of the year. Meanwhile, Penn State Brandywine (1-1-1) suffered its first loss of the year to end the Maryland road swing following a scoreless tie against Goucher on Saturday.

  • Things were intense early with a pair of yellow cards on Penn State Brandywine within the first 11 minutes.
  • Off a set piece, Iliass Zouita curved a great ball into the box that found the head of Jason Kahan, who bounced it into the net for a 1-0 advantage.
  • Stevenson doubled its lead around 11 minutes later with Edson DeMata sliding in to bury a long cross from Sean McDonald in the 23rd minute.
  • The Mustangs kept up the pressure, continuing the offensive onslaught as the opening frame winded down.
  • Tiago Silva darted in to direct a long pass from Jacob Chatten into the goal for a 3-0 edge with just seconds left in the first half.

  • The Mustangs went right back to work in the second half, extending the lead to 4-0 on a long Pete Wickiser strike. Wickiser, who finished the shot just under the crossbar, took the pass in the middle of the field from Angel Zelaya.
  • Sergio Tamayo capped the big day offensively for Stevenson with a tally of his own, coming courtesy of an Owen Mostoller feed, in the 67th minute for a 5-0 advantage.
  • Penn State Brandywine mustered a goal with less than 40 seconds remaining, coming off the foot of Liam Pheiffer.

  • Stevenson celebrated the first of two Senior Day's on the season, recognizing the program's fifth-year seniors prior to kickoff on Sunday. Dylan Holy, Jay Smith, Wickiser, Drew Meyers and CJ Beteta were all recognized on the field before the start of Sunday's matchup.
  • All five of the Mustangs goals came from different scorers as 10 different players finished with at least one point.
  • Tamayo and Silva notched their first collegiate goals on Sunday.
  • Sunday concluded a busy season-opening stretch that saw three games in a four day span for the Mustangs.
  • Depth has been a point of emphasis for Stevenson in the early portions of the season and Sunday was no different. A total of 33 players saw playing time in the lopsided victory.
